The ATA certification represents a professional standard that assures the translator’s competence and accountability. When translations are prepared outside the U.S., they must clearly indicate the translator’s name, license or registration number, and the certifying authority; typically a Ministry of Justice or equivalent government body. This verification process allows ACEI to confirm that the translator is legally recognized to provide official translations within their country.
Why does this matter? Because even a minor translation error such as a misinterpreted grade, title, or course description can affect the academic equivalency outcome. An unlicensed translator or automated translation tool may inadvertently distort critical details, leading to inaccuracies that impact an applicant’s admission, licensing, or employment prospects.
